Complete recap: LSU women's basketball loses to Duke in Sweet 16 on buzzer beater

LSU women's basketball saw its season end on a buzzer beater in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament Friday. No. 3 seed Duke rattled home a three pointer as time expired in the fourth quarter to claim an 87-85 victory over the No. 2 seed Tigers.
In the fourth quarter, LSU rode a 10-0 run into the game's final play but Ashlon Jackson stuck the dagger on an out of bounds play under Duke's basket. The purple and gold end the season with a 29-5 record.
Flau'Jae Johnson, in her final game as a Tiger, scored 13 points and pulled down five rebounds. MiLaysia Fulwiley led all scorers with 28 points followed by 22 points from Mikaylah Williams. LSU shot 46% from the field.
The Tigers allowed a 9-0 run to open the first quarter. Sloppy offense play and a weak paint presence allowed Duke to build an early lead. Fulwiley scored 18 points in the first half to keep LSU in the game, going into the locker room down by seven.
Both teams exchanged blows to open the second half as lead was passed back and forth. Duke got top by 10 midway through the fourth quarter but LSU fought back. Williams scored the team's final six points, including the go-ahead foul shot.

A three pointer at the buzzer by Ashlon Jackson sends Duke to the Elite 8. LSU battled back from a double digit deficit but couldn't overcome a slow start. Its season ends with a 29-5 record
One more chance for Duke
Duke went for the three-pointer but missed. The Blue Devils have the ball under their basket with two seconds left.
LSU leads
Williams made both foul shots to give LSU an 85-84 lead. Duke called a timeout to advance the ball to half court. There are nine seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Williams got the offensive rebound off a miss from Flau'Jae Johnson.
Call stands
Duke loses a timeout. LSU retains possession. Mulkey called a timeout to advance the ball to half court. The Tigers trail 84-83 with 18 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Appeal on out of bounds call
The call on the court was out of bounds on Duke off of the missed free throw. Duke appealed the call.
Williams cuts deficit to three
A dribble and drive by Williams gets LSU within one possession of Duke. The Blue Devils are ahead 84-81 with 1:36 left in the fourth quarter.
Duke commits offensive foul
Flau'Jae Johnson drew the charge on an illegal screen by Duke. Williams scored on the ensuing possession. Duke leads 84-83 with 45 seconds left.
LSU within five
Foul shots from Fulwiley cut the deficit to five. Duke leads 84-79 with 2:22 left in the fourth quarter.
Willams back in
Williams is back in the game for Grace Knox, who fouled out.
Williams getting medical attention
Athletic trainers are working on Williams' calf muscle while the game goes on. LSU is down 83-75 with 3:59 left in the fourth quarter.
LSU down by 10
A three-pointer from Taina Mair put Duke ahead 83-73 with 4:45 left in regulation. Flau'Jae Johnson checked in and will be back on the court after the media timeout.
Johnson stays on bench
Coming out of the timeout, Flau'Jae Johnson remains on the sideline. She subbed out at the 8:37 mark and isn't in foul trouble. LSU is down 80-73 with 5:42 left in the fourth quarter.
LSU deficit reaches double digits
Another three-point play extends Duke's run to 11-0. LSU called a timeout on the ensuing offensive possession, attempting to grab momentum back. The Tigers are struggling in the paint on both ends of the floor. They are down 78-69 with 7:17 left in regulation.
Duke goes ahead
Two three-point plays and a midrange jumper put Duke up 75-67 with eight minutes left in regulation. Everything is falling for the Blue Devils in the early goings of the fourth quarter.
END Q3: Duke 67, LSU 65
LSU shot better in the third quarter to take brief leads and keep the game at one possession. Flau'Jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams are up to a combined 27 points while Fulwiley has 20 points.
Richard, Johnson make plays
Flau'Jae Johnson made two game-tying layups to keep LSU close. Jada Richard made a jump shot then on back-to-back defensive possessions, went to the ground to fight for a loose ball, securing possession for LSU both times.
The game is tied at 65 with under a minute left in the third quarter.
Duke goes in front
The Blue Devils responded to a 13-5 LSU run to open the half by scoring on back to back possessions to take a 61-59 lead with 3:57 left in the third quarter.
Both sides are exchanging baskets. LSU woke up offensively to start the frame, getting better efforts from Flau'Jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams while also benefitting from Fulwiley's sharp shooting.
LSU takes lead
Williams completed a three-point play to give LSU its first lead since the opening minute of the game. The junior fought her way through the lane and drew contact.
After Duke went back ahead, Flau'Jae Johnson got a shot to fall to grab the lead back. LSU leads 55-54 with 5:33 left in the third quarter.
LSU opens scoring
Amiya Joyner and Flau'Jae Johnson each recorded layups before Duke responded with a triple. Two free throws from Williams and a Knox jump shot bring the Tigers within two points two minutes into the third quarter.
HALF: Duke 47, LSU 40
The Blue Devils controlled every aspect of the first half. They led nearly every minute, scoring 26 points in the paint and staying with LSU on the glass.
LSU cannot get its playmakers going as Williams and Flau'Jae Johnson are a combined three of 14 from the field. Fulwiley leads the Tigers with 18 points.
Substitutes get LSU closer
Bella Hines dished a dime inside to Amiya Joyner, who got the basket and the foul. She heads to the line with LSU down by six. Duke leads 35-32 with 3:49 left in the second quarter.
Fulwiley is keeping LSU in the game. She has 16 points on six of seven shooting from the field. The rest of the team is five for 27.
LSU gets in foul trouble
Kate Koval, Grace Knox and ZaKiyah Johnson each have two fouls midway through the second quarter. LSU continues to struggle inside and having three of its biggest paint presences dealing with fouls isn't helping remedy the problem.
Offense stagnant for LSU
Duke continues shooting well from field, which limits LSU's opportunities to get its transition game going. The Tigers aren't moving the ball well in the half court sets.
Knox completed a three-point play to bring the Tigers within eight points. The Blue Devils lead 34-26 with 6:32 left in the first half.
LSU needs paint presence
LSU won the first matchup against Duke with a strong performance inside. The Blue Devils are winning the interior through the first 10 minutes of the Sweet 16. They out rebounded the Tigers and scored 14 points inside.
END Q1: Duke 24, LSU 19
LSU overcame a slow start and rode the hot hand of Fulwiley, who scored 10 points in the opening frame, but it shot just 29% from the field. Duke had all the answers, though. The Blue Devils finished 56% from the field and are winning on the glass 11-8.
LSU makes first shots from the field
Fulwiley got down hill to lay a shot up and in. LSU's first made shot from the field came midway through the first quarter. On the following possession, the junior guard assisted Knox on a layup.
Duke leads 13-9 with 4:09 left in the first quarter.
Turnovers, rebounds make difference
Duke leads 8-2 on the glass. Over half of its points came off of five offensive rebounds. The Tigers are a step behind in the paint and are making careless errors. They have three turnovers so far.
Mulkey calls timeout
Fournier scored on a fast break layup off an LSU turnover, prompting a timeout from Mulkey. Duke leads 9-2, holding LSU scoreless aside from the Tigers' free throws to open the game.
Duke starts hot on glass
All five of Duke's points came courtesy of offensive rebounds. The Blue Devils lead 5-2 two minutes into the game. LSU already has three turnovers. MiLaysia Fulwiley and Grace Knox subbed into the game.
