Tony Gomez appointed to NE Racing & Gaming Commission

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KCAU) — A Siouxland businessman is now on a state-run commission in Nebraska.

Governor Jim Pillen appointed Antonio “Tony” Gomez of Jackson to the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission on March 26. The appointment takes effect on April 1.

The Governor’s Office said the six-member commission are subject to approval by the state legislature and serve four-year terms.

Tony started Gomez Pallets in 1983 in South Sioux City. Gomez has retired from the daily operations.

In September 2025, Gomez received the W. Edwards Deming Business Leadership and Entrepreneurial Excellence Award during the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce’s 39th Annual Dinner.

Gomez previously served on the Nebraska Commission on Latino-Americans as a Commissioner from 1981 to 2002.

He was also on the Dakota County Board of Commissioners for 12 years. Gomez held a role on the Foundation Board for Northeast Community College.
