Vols defeat Iowa State, advance to third straight Elite Eight
No. 6 seed Tennessee (25-11) defeated No. 2 seed Iowa State (29-8), 76-62, on Friday in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 at United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Nate Ament led Tennessee in scoring with 18 points. He recorded four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal. Ja’Kobi Gillespie (16) Felix Okpara (12) and Jaylen Carey (11) also scored 10-plus points for the Vols.
Tennessee advanced to its third straight NCAA Tournament Elite Eight under 11th-year head coach Rick Barnes.
Joshua Jefferson was out for Iowa State with a sprained ankle.
