Film crew shoots psychological thriller in Myrtle Beach

A film crew has been working across the Grand Strand for about a month, shooting scenes for an upcoming psychological thriller called “Undertow.”
Director Adam Segal said the project was originally supposed to be filmed in Ireland, but the production decided to come to Myrtle Beach because there are better incentives.
“It’s about a woman who’s a lawyer with a younger sister who lives in Myrtle Beach. When her sister disappears, she comes here to investigate what happened,” Segal said.
Segal said filming at the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness Center is being used for ocean scenes.
“A lot of this boat picture takes place on a yacht, and the character jumps off the yacht, and she's swimming, and the guy's chasing her,” he said.

The production has also filmed at several other locations around the area, including the airport, local restaurants and the police station.
“We were filming on the beach the last couple of days, which was fun because there were tons of people out there,” Segal said.
“We even filmed in the police station, you know, like when they shut down the police station for us to film there, the, the city Chamber of Commerce," Segal added.
State officials say productions like this can boost tourism and generate revenue, which is why South Carolina offers incentives to attract filmmakers.
“A production will call and if they're over the million-dollar threshold to do some filming here in, in the state of South Carolina, they can be rebated at 30%, up to 30% for in-state purchases or rentals, and then 25% for, for in-state crew that they use,” said Matthew Storm of the South Carolina film office.
Segal said he could not share how long the crew will be filming in the area, when the film will be released, or who is in the cast.
More than 200 feature films, series and TV movies have been shot in South Carolina, and the South Carolina Film Commission said it is working to bring even more directors to the state this year.
